  • Dr Olufemi Adelowo MD,FRCP,MACR is a Professor of Medicine and Consultant Rheumatologist at the two teaching hospitals in Lagos- Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He also runs a private rheumatology facility- Arthrimed Specialist Hospital. He graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in 1973. He started his residency training in Internal Medicine in 1976 and completed it in 1982 with award of Fellowship in Rheumatology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He had his rheumatology training at St Bartholomew Hospital, London. He has worked in many teaching hospitals in Nigeria, establishing rheumatology units in four of them. He also had a stint at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Oman. He has trained more than 50 Nigerian rheumatologists and was at certain times President of the African League of Associations of Rheumatology(AFLAR). He was also Chairman of the Executive Committee of ILAR.
    He has more than 120 publications to his credit. His team has only recently completed the first lupus registry in Nigeria.
    His research interests are SLE, Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
