  • Ali Mobasheri is Professor of Musculoskeletal Biology in the Fibrobesity Research Theme and the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oulu in Finland. He also holds the position of Chief Researcher and International Adviser in the State Research Institute Centre for Innovative Medicine in Vilnius, Lithuania. From March 2020 to October 2021 he held a Visiting Professor position in the Departments of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at University Medical Centre Utrecht in the Netherlands. He has also held visiting professorships at Harvard University in Boston, USA and Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. Ali leads an multidisciplinary team of researchers in Vilnius and continues to contribute to research activities of two centres of excellence in Finland and Lithuania. He is the Immediate Past President of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) and is ranked as one of the top 10 leading experts in the world on cartilage and on osteoarthritis on expertscape.com.

    Ali’s research focuses on cartilage biology, specifically cellular metabolism, ion channel physiology and biomarkers of osteoarthritis. His current h-index on Scopus is 68.
