  • Prof. Cho is a KAIST Endowed Chair Professor of Biological Sciences at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Before joining the KAIST, he was a project scientist at the Department of Bioengineering of the University of California San Diego, USA. He completed his Ph.D. in the molecular biotechnology and biomaterials laboratory at the Seoul National University, Korea. His research has focused on systems and synthetic biology; in particular, he has contributed to understanding microbial transcriptional and translational regulatory networks using high-throughput technologies. His group is also focusing on engineering microorganisms using information-rich data types and synthetic biology tools to develop C1 biorefinery, discover secondary metabolites for pharmaceutical applications, and design therapeutic bacteria for medical applications. As of February 2022, he has published >200 scientific articles, >30 patents, and given >400 invited scientific talks. He has been appointed as a KAIST-endowed chair professor (2021), and a young scientist from the World Economic Forum (2012) and the Korea Academy of Science and Technology (2013).
