  • Prof. Cho is a KAIST Endowed Chair Professor of Biological Sciences, Director of BioCentury at KAIST Institutes, Head of the Graduate School of Engineering Biology, and Associate Vice-President of the Office of Research Affairs at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Before joining the KAIST, he was a project scientist in the Palsson lab at the Department of Bioengineering of the University of California San Diego. He completed his Ph.D. at the Seoul National University, Korea. His research has focused on the systems and synthetic biology of microorganisms; particularly, he has contributed to the understanding of microbial transcriptional and translational regulatory networks using high-throughput technologies. His research group is highly interested in determining bacterial meta-structure, which consists of numerous cis- and trans-genetic regulatory elements. His group focuses on engineering biology using information-rich data types and synthetic biology tools for syngas utilization, biopharmaceuticals, and enzymatic DNA synthesis. As of March 2023, his group published >200 scientific articles and >30 patents. He was appointed as a KAIST-endowed chair professor (2021), a young scientist from the World Economic Forum (WEF, 2012), and the Korea Academy of Science and Technology (KAST, 2013).
