  • T M Chan is Chair Professor & Yu Chiu Kwong Chair of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, and Chief of Nephrology & Honorary Consultant at Hong Kong West Cluster Hospitals.
    His research themes include lupus nephritis and viral hepatitis in patients with kidney diseases, with key contributions in advancing the treatment of lupus nephritis and prevention of hepatitis B flare in kidney transplant recipients, both resulting in significantly improved clinical outcomes. He has published over 400 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Arthritis Rheumatology, Kidney International, Journal of American Society of Nephrology, Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Transplantation, and Nature Reviews Nephrology, etc. He is Lead Author for the Lupus Nephritis chapter in the 2021 and 2023 KDIGO Clinical Management Guideline for Glomerulonephritis, and authors chapters for hepatitis B management in kidney disease patients in UpToDate.
    He has served as Associate Dean of Medical Faculty, Senate member, and is currently Member of the University Council at the University of Hong Kong. He is member of Biology & Medicine Panel of Hong Kong Research Grants Council Joint Research Scheme. He was Chief of Clinical Service at HKWC Department of Medicine, Chairman of Hong Kong Hospital Authority Coordinating Committee in Internal Medicine, and President of Hong Kong Society of Transplantation. In 2017, he established the first (and only) ABO-incompatible kidney transplant program in Hong Kong, at Queen Mary Hospital. He has been Chairman of Nephrology Specialty Board, Chairman of Education & Accreditation Committee, and is President of Hong Kong College of Physicians since 2022.
    He has been Council member of International Society of Nephrology (ISN), Executive Committee member of Asian Society of Transplantation, and President of Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN). He received HKU Outstanding Researcher Award in 2006, and APSN Kenzo Oshima Award in 2014.
