  • Dr. Tsutomu Takeuchi is Vice President of Saitama Medical University in Saitama, and Emeritus Professor of Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. He serves as the specially appointed professor for both University. He is also a visiting professor, Iwate Medical University, Fujita Medical University, and Tokyo Dental University. Finally, He is becoming the fellow of Research Center of advanced science and technology, The University of Tokyo.

    After completing his medical education at Keio University School of Medicine, Dr. Takeuchi was awarded clinical and research fellowships in the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at Keio University School of Medicine. Subsequently, he was a research fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, where his research centered on human immunology.

    He has been served as the general director of Keio University Hospital since October 1st, 2013. Keio University Hospital is approved as one of the Center of Excellence (COE) for Rheumatology by Asia Pacific league against rheumatism (APLAR) in 2017.
    After completion of the term of general director, he became the vice president of Keio University from August 2017 to May 2021. He is the emeritus professor of Keio University as well as the specially appointed professor of Rheumatology, Keio University School of Medicine.

    He is now serving as the President-elect in Asia Pacific League Against Rheumatology (APLAR) and the President of Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR) and the President of Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration. He experienced the chair for 66th JCR2021, co-chaired 22nd APLAR2020 with APLAR president Prof. Haq, and 23rd APLAR2021. He also experienced the chair for 117th Annual Congress of Japanese Society of Internal Medicine 2020.

    His major research interests are pathogenesis, translational research and clinical studies/trials for autoimmune diseases including Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), vasculitis, idiopathic inflammatory myositis, and Sjogren’s syndrome.

    Dr. Takeuchi is a productive author and researcher. He has published more than 500 original articles and 20000 citations in Nature Immunol, Nature Comm, Nature Rev Rheum, JAMA, Lancet Rheum, J Clin Invest, Ann Rheum Dis, Arthritis Rheum, Rheumatology (Oxford), J Rheumatology, Int J Rheum Dis, Mod Rheum, and other peer-reviewed journals.
