  • Dr Sung Soo Ahn's biography:


    Dr. Sung Soo Ahn obtained his medical degree from Hallym University College of Medicine and completed his intern and residency training for internal medicine at Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in Rheumatology at the same institution and has also received his Ph.D. in Yonsei University. He is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yonsei University College of Medicine in South Korea and is working in the Division of Rheumatology in Yongin Severance Hospital.

    During his scientific career, he endeavored to discover clinically useful biomarkers in the diagnosis and treatment of various rheumatic diseases, especially ANCA-associated vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis and published papers on these topics. In addition, he conducted research to investigate the epidemiology of chronic inflammatory diseases using nationwide databases of South Korea.

    Dr. Ahn has a special interest in the identification of biomarkers in rheumatic diseases, and prognostication of patients utilizing large scale data, enabling a better understanding of the disease course in patients with these conditions. He is also interested in developing clinical biomarkers using novel techniques, such as analyzing the human microbiota.
